I think this is possibly one of our (Matt and I) favourite set of photos we've shot this year so far – and there were many pretty amazing ones with our travels already, but we still managed to trek out in 30 degree heat (where has my Equatorian blood gone to?!), sweating buckets, hopped on a train and a bus and way too long later... we rode into the edge of Surrey to Mayfield Lavender fields. I've been wanting to go since last year but we got preoccupied, so this year, we decided to make the most of the summer heat and got out of the house!
Entrance was £1, which I suppose, isn't too bad, given it's going towards upkeep etc. But lo and behold, we eventually found a public path from another side entrance which is actually free - so if anyone of you guys head there, you can decide if you want to get in the free path or the small-fee path but either way it's pretty cool to be there in the fields. Personally, I'm a big fan of lavender so the smell of it was very warm and inviting, and then I pretended I was in Aix-en-Provence or something.... running through the fields. There were a lot of bees, but I tried to make my way around them by skipping over the tall lavenders.
Fortunately it wasn't too crowded, even on a Saturday, which meant the lanes between the lavender rows were unoccupied so we could take shots with a relatively clear background. Also remember to bring a polarizer if you're going on a sunny day, it'll help a lot with the glare of the sun! Although you guys probably don't want to see what the behind-the-scenes actually were... carrying around two massive lenses and lugging them around and swapping them depending on the shots, but it's all in the fun ain't it!

I hope you enjoy these photos as much as we did taking them, it's an absolutely magical place to visit (when it's not too hot) and there's still about a week left before they close for the end of summer! So if you're think of where you might want to go over the Bank Holiday weekend, maybe consider a frolic in a purple haze?
In any case, let me know what you think of these and of your plans this weekend :) I've finally handed in my dissertation so I'll be having a small break as a celebration!
